Description: Three circles with approximately 380 ceramic butterflies and forget-me-nots placed within. It was made as a thank you to organ donors and their families and represents the relationship between donor and recipient.
Concept:
This artwork was made as a thank you to organ donors in honour of those who gave the gift of Life.
It signifies the bond between donors and their recipients and is echoed in the relationship between the forget-me-not and the butterfly.
As the butterfly receives sustenance through nectar, the plant is, in return, pollinated.
The forget-me-not flower – a symbol no donor will ever be forgotten.
The butterfly – a symbol of new life
Words written on the butterflies were taken from testimonials from donor families and recipients.
Donors generously give the gift of life to another person to enable them to live their lives with a new freedom
