Description: Sunlight in the Garden is a stunning bespoke ceramic art installation crafted by the talented Diane McCormick. This exquisite piece transforms a simple wall into a vivid tableau of flora and fauna with printed words taken from heartfelt testimonials from donor families and recipients.
This artwork was created to signify the bond between donors and their recipients and as a thank you to donors and their families.
Spanning across the garden’s main corridor, the artwork features a sinuous shape that mirrors the ebb and flow of a river, seamlessly integrating with the building’s architecture. The ceramic surface is adorned with an array of hand-painted flowers and butterflies, each element vibrant in hues that range from the soft lavender of early dawn to the rich greens and blues that recall deep woodland shadows.
Diane McCormick’s interactive design invites viewers to pause and reflect, making it not just a visual spectacle but an integral part of the therapeutic environment of the Royal Victoria Hospital. It stands as a testament to the power of bespoke art to enhance and harmonise the spaces we inhabit, providing a continual source of inspiration and solace to all who pass by.
“A garden after rain brings forth new flowers and nourishes many forms of life.”
The forget-me-not flower – a symbol no donor will ever be forgotten.
